Random vs Randompage
You're right, but linking to both Random and Randompage work so both should be in the list.
Also, IMO this discussion is tangential to the page's topic. Let's just fix the error and leave it at that. In any case, when the Wikipedia folks fix theirs, the discussion will be outdated. -- Bilbo 20:51, 26 October 2006 (CDT)
The bug has been fixed at Wikipedia: "Some time ago Special:Randompage was moved to Special:Random; the old name remains as an alias. Conveniently the new name is a prefix of the old one, so we only need one entry. ;)" -- Fvue 03:20, 5 November 2006 (CST)
Nice URLs not working.
Help! I used your advice in "Make URLs look like http://server-name/wiki/Main_Page" on my existing wiki but it blew away the skin and the links from the main page no longer work. Does this tip only work for newly installed wikis (without articles)? Thanks.
- No, it's supposed to work for installed wikis as well, since you're only changing the Apache config and the LocalSettings.php file. I do use these options, assuming I didn't typo in the article. At work, I use options for making artiles appear in /, and on Devpit I use the options for making them appear in /wiki/. If you find that the problem is a mistake in the article, please feel free to tweak the article. It sounds vaguely like you might be doing something that masks the mediawiki directory; remember, the directory mediawiki is in should not be the directory that is visible in article URLs. Apache should do the translation from /Article or /wiki/Artile to /mediawiki/index.php?title=Article. Sorry, I don't really have time to fully debug it for you though. -- Bilbo 23:53, 17 September 2006 (CDT)
- We had the exact same problem and what worked for us was the following. I had /wiki holding the program files and the article space. When I did the fix described in the article, my skin for my wiki disappeared. To fix it, I copied the program files to /techwiki and created the articlespace in /wiki and made the alias in apache for /wiki. The cleared up everything.
